Who we are

The Kurdistan Society is a non-profit organisation based in London, United Kingdom, working to strengthen relations between the United Kingdom and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. For anything relating to this policy or your personal data, contact us at info@kurdistansociety.com.

What we collect, and why

When you contact us or apply for membership through our website, we ask for your name, contact details (email, and optionally a mobile number), professional details (job title and organisation), your city and country, how you heard of us, and your message. We use this information to respond to your enquiry, to administer membership, partnership, sponsorship, and donation requests, and to understand where our community is based so we can plan events and delegations.

If you join our mailing list, we use your email address to send you occasional updates and event invitations. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by writing to us.

Our lawful basis

We process enquiry data on the basis of your consent, given when you submit the form, and our legitimate interest in responding to the people who contact us. We send the newsletter only to people who have asked to receive it.

Where your data lives

Enquiries are delivered to the Society’s staff by email. Mailing-list details are held in our email platform. We use established service providers to operate these systems, and we do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry records for as long as needed to handle your request and administer any resulting membership or relationship, and mailing-list details until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Under UK data-protection law you may ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to our processing of it. To exercise any of these rights, email info@kurdistansociety.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
